The log cabin as we know it today can have its roots traced back to Scandinavia and Eastern Europe back in the Bronze Age, and Swedish settlers are believed to have constructed the first log cabins in the United States in the 17th century. Fast forward to modern day and log cabins still display some Scandinavian influence.

Scandinavian Style Log Cabins

This influence is noticeable in the styling of Greenacre Log Cabins, especially in the Traditional Log Cabin Range, where the log cabin designs incorporate smooth, planed logs, apex roof styles, and attractive roof overhangs. Furthermore the weather-tight joints used in our log cabin kits can also be traced back to the early Scandinavian log cabins, where notches were made in the ends of the logs to interlock them.

Scandinavian Log Cabin Pine

The original Scandinavian Log Cabins were constructed from locally-sourced pine, and as the Scandinavian countries are thinly populated and the winters are long and cold, the pine used was dense, slow grown pine, which results in a stronger and more durable log. This is why we only use Baltic-sourced pine in our log cabin kits today.
