Log Cabins Around the World

The modest log cabin is a garden building that never seems to go off the radar. It has been around since the 1600s and continues to expand across the globe. With so many new developments in the garden building industry including successful heating and plumbing to name a few, the new log cabins are caving a path for themselves as luxurious buildings fit for multi purposes. Log cabins scale the price ranges with log cabin kits being available across the internet and large hotel chains building highly lavish log buildings for their guests to stay in. The log cabin has certainly come a long way.

After much research, we’ve found some interesting log cabins across the world that we thought we’d share with you here on Greenacre.

The largest log cabin in the world is Chateau Montebello in Canada. A hand built hotel constructed in 1930 and made up of 10,000 logs! It is known for its luxurious rooms and grand interiors.

Barbara Mandrell’s Quaint Log Cabin is another of the grander log homes around. It is in Nashville Tennessee and includes a helicopter pad, an indoor pool, a theatre, a shooting range and a hot tub!

The Russian Gangster Nikolai Sutyagin is owner of the world’s tallest log cabin which measures a staggering 144ft. The project began in 1992 when Sutyagin tried to build a log cabin to rival his neighbours’ grand two-storey log home. After two storeys, Sutyagin decided to add an additional 11 floors!

Other impressive log cabins include the Moose Cape Cabin in Finland which is a guest house built in a densely forested area by Lake Pettämä. The cabin has two floors, a sauna, an open plan kitchen and its own rowing boat.

It’s surprising that the log cabin has evolved as much as it has in the last 500 years. Log homes are even being utilised by celebrities. Tom Cruise has his own cabin in Colorado which he uses as an Alien Bunker!

Bill Gates has his own 40,000 square-foot log home in Washington which boasts five surrounding acres, a garage that accommodates up to 30 cars, a private library with a domed reading room, lights that automatically come on when you enter a room and temperature readers that change automatically according to peoples preferences.

Log cabins are becoming the popular choice for celebrities and the public. Long live the log cabin!
